2024 Championships

A big thank you must go out to the hosts of the event, both Dean and Lisa. Once again you opened you home to us and gave the snooker vagrants of Ocean Grove a home for the night.
Also commitee and all that helped on the night most important members for coming along.

Singles

The singles championship was going to be an epic battle between Roy Tan and Gerry Sanderson. I heard some skuttlebutt (a Navy term for a rumour) on the night that Roy was getting tips on the weekend from last year retiring singles champion Fluffy (better luck next year Pete).
The first frame was over quick smart with Roy not giving Gerry a chance with a break of 48 to completely shut him out. The second frame was a dour contest, with Gerry wrestling control back, scoring well over a number of visits to the table. Gerry was on a tear on the colours and narrowly missed the pink to take the second frame outright. There were two balls left (the pink and the black) with Roy needing a snooker to have a chance at the second frame and claiming the title outright. Trying to remove the pink from over the centre pocket Roy knocked it in ensuring that Gerry won the second frame.
The final frame could only be described as a lesson in snooker. Gerry only had two shots and it was about to be over before it began. Roy treated those present to an absolute master class in ball control and placement. He went on to secure a break of 85, he could have gone higher if there were any more balls left on the table and claim the singles title. It was a sight to see. All matches were over by 2100 (9pm you should get it now).

Doubles

The doubles championship was a contest between Roy Tan/Bobby McKillop and Steve Dolphin/Michael Goodger. Roy and Bob didn't give the other team much of a chance and won in a clean sweep 2 fames to 0. This final was completed in quick time. The doubles match gave Roy a quick warm for the singles championship..
