History of the Ocean Grove Snooker Club
 
The club was formed initially by Harry Adams, and Harold Blakey by placing an advertisement in the “Echo". Harry Adams was the inaugural President of the first six teams, Asbury Angels, Dare Devils, Grubb Road Gremlins, Madeley Maulers, Terrace Terrors, And the Thacker Wackers.
 
The first game was played on the 11th May1977. The first premiers were the Madeley Maulers, with the runner up being the Terrace Terrors. Singles champion was Bob Daniels, and the highest break was Ted Benbrow with 34. The first presentation dinner took place on Friday 4th November 1977at the Leopold Sportsman's Club.
 
In 1978, the club expanded to eight teams with the addition of the Bramwell Bombers and the Wallington Warriors. 1979 saw the Asbury Angels and the Terrace Terrors replaced by the Blackwell Bandits, and theTuckfield Tigers.
 
1981 the club further expanded to 10 teams, with the inclusion of the Douberg Deros, Douberg Dynamos, Orton St Outlaws, and the Powell St Pirates, (formerly Grubb Rd Gremlins), and the disappearance of the Tuckfield Tigers.
 
When the Warwick Wombats joined in 1982, it created a bye in the fixture, however, this was eliminated in 1983 when the Orton St Outlaws, and the Powell St Pirates disbanded. Resulting in the inclusion of the Avenue Avengers,Terrace Turkeys, and the Wilkinson Weirdo's toform a maximum 12 team competition.The withdrawal of the Deros in 1985, and the Weirdo's in 1986 saw them replaced by the Gremlins and the Bowlers respectively.
 
In 1986, our tenth year, Premiers were the Wallington Warrior's, with the runner up the Blackwell Bandits. Singles champion was Neil Fuller, and the highest break was Richard Butters with 53.
August 1988 saw one of our founding members, Harold Blakey pass away. In 1989 The Cannons replaced the Bombers, and Fred Brown handed over the Presidency to the late Ray Pickering after 10 years service.
 
In 1990 the Wombats were replaced by the Kestrels. Sadly 1991 saw the passing of our co-founder Harry Adams. The club then became Incorporated on the 20th of November 1991.
 
1996, our 20th year, the premiers were the Turkey's, with the runner up being the Kestrels. Singles champion, Roy Tan, highest break Roy Tan with 79. 2000 saw the Kestrels disband, creating a bye, which was subsequently filled by the Lodge.
 
2001, our 25th year. Premiers were the Maulers, Warriors runner up. Singles champion Bruce Michell, highest break, Roy Tan 102. Sadly 2002 saw the passing of our President Ron Franklin, the Wackers were spurred on by this sad event, and took out the premiership. 2002 also saw Gerry Pietersen's team, the Devils disband, after a long association with the club.
Ocean Grove was once again successful against the Drysdale/Clifton Springs association in the inter-town competition.
 
2003 saw Nev Ludeman take on the Presidency. The season commenced with 10 teams, due to the departure of the Dynamo's. We were able to cover this loss with the inclusion of the Cobra's. The Intertown team again defeated Drysdale/Clifton Springs, where the Grove shirts were worn for the first time. The premiership was won by the Maulers, the Avengers were runners up. Singles champ, Charlie De Pasquale, doubles, John Lucas, & Ian Pattison.
 
2004 saw John Haxby take on the Presidency, The Maulers disbanded, The Avengers Triumphed as premiers, defeating the Warriors in the Final. Singles championship went to Bruce Michell, with the doubles being won by John Cook & Russell McGlashan. The inter-town comp was again won by the Ocean Grove Team.
 
2005, sadly we saw the passing of our President John Haxby after a long illness Vale John. We also welcomed a new team to the competition, in the Dolphins, Bringing our numbers back to 11 teams. The premiers were the Wackers defeating the Avengers in the Final. Charlie
DePasquale once again won the singles championship with Graeme Menzies & Mark Pattison winning the doubles.
 
2006 we had the passing of long time member and executive of the club Garnet Butters. Peter Clark took on the Presidency in the  30th year the competition commenced with 12 teams, due to the formation of the Falcons.
The premiers were the Bandits defeating the Wackers in the Final. The singles championship was won by Peter Kleindienst, whilst the doubles was won by Mark Thomas & Phil Grinter. Ocean Grove was again successful in the inter-town competition.
In the 30th year we celebrated the clubs longevity and looked back on a very proud, and successful snooker club.  0ne of the oldest existing snooker clubs in Victoria.
We recalled many good times, and remembered past players, officials, and friends no longer with us.
 
2007 The premiers were the Cannons defeating the Turkeys in the Final. The singles championship was won by Peter Kleindienst, whilst the doubles was won by John Cook & Rick Wilkins. Ocean Grove was again successful in the inter-town competition.
 
2008 The premiers were the Falcons defeating the Bandits in the Final. The singles championship was won by Peter Kleindienst, whilst the doubles was won by Mark Thomas & Rob Holt. Ocean Grove was defeated in the inter-town competition.
 
2009 The premiers were the Turkeys defeating the Falcons in the Final. The singles championship was won by Brian Munns, whilst the doubles was won by Gerry Sanderson & Joe Reece. Ocean Grove was successful in the inter-town competition, for the first time we had to change the format and it was played on one table in Drysdale and very entertaining night.
2009 also saw the sad passing of Bill Grigg one of the original players since the inception of the club.
 
2010 The premiers were the The Lodge defeating the Wackers in the Final. The singles championship was won by Jeff Izatt, whilst the doubles was won by Peter Kleidienst and Shane O'Keefe. Ocean Grove was successful in the inter-town competition, we played on two tables at the Ocean Grove Tennis club on a Sunday afternoon, this proved to be a great afternoon with excellent attendance.
2010 also saw the sad passing of Joe Warren.
