Good Afternoon Everyone,

Each week I have taken you off on a side track and today will be no different. Did you know that today is international talk like a pirate day. It is a real thing; it was started way back in 1995 by two guys in Oregon USA (John Baur and Mark Summers). So go ahead and belt out a couple of argggggs and me harties or any other pirate saying you can think of (go on I know you want to and won't be able to help yourself). See it wasn't that hard.

Now back on schedule and first thing first I owe an apology to Graeme Whitworth who was the only person to obtain a break of above 20 last week. Graeme got himself a score of 23, well done (you can thank your knucle head teammates for not putting it on the sheet).

Now because I was present for the entirety of the grand final, I didn't see any breaks on the night so there are none to report this week.               

Well down to it now, the season for Ocean Grove Snooker has come to an end and we can crown the grand final winners.

Congratulations to The Cannons for winning in 2024, well done to Geoff 'The Assassin' Foster, Darryl 'Big Daz' Trippet (the trade of the season), Chris 'Bum Fluff' Jacobs, Deano 'The Armourer' Brown and cheering on from the sides Benny 'The Super Sub' Ellis.

Because I can't help myself and type dribble for the sake of it, you will have to endure. The night started off with a real arm wrestle (or a snooker kind of arm wrestle if you like). Butts must have taken lessons from Vossy the other week, channelling his inner Warnie, having to bring out the flipper to screw the white around other balls to make a shot. Geoff and Dean continued their good form from last week playing some tactical snooker keeping Ian 'Butts' Butteriss and Michael 'Vossy' Voss at bay to take out the first frame by only 7 points.

The next frame was a battle between kin, Big Fluff v Bum Fluff (they had partners too Big Fluff played with Neil 'Wal' Walter (who knew his name was Neil) and Bum Fluff played with Big Daz. This match was an arm wrestle as well, with Big Fluff following Bum Fluff. Chris gave his dad very little and Daz did much the same to Wal. The Cannons snookered the opposition on a regular basis. When we got down to the colours, it was still pretty close and Wal got some payback snookering Bum Fluff. Bum Fluff and Daz took out this frame by 2 points. The grand final was looking like it was going to go down to the wire.

Geoff and Big Fluff played at number 1, and it looked like Geoff had caged Fluffy not giving him a look at anything. Geoff took out the frame and it was Cannons 3, Ducks 0.

The music was pumping at the Thunderdome and Wal could be heard singing to music from Chisel, the Oils and ACDC to name a few (I could hear him anyway).

The scene was set, Big Daz v Butts (that sounded better before I typed it out) they were the next two to the table. Daz cooked Butts like a duck dinner serving him up on a platter. The score was now Cannons 4 Ducks 0, the points difference has blown out to about 70 and the Ducks need to take back the next frame and by a sizeable margin.

We now saw Wal take on Bum Fluff. Wal entered the fray staring down a hot Cannons barrel and they were looking to take a clean sweep. Bum Fluff added to the carnage, he didn't need a razor, he was a razor, carving up Wal and not giving him a shot and that was it. It was all over; the Cannons had shot the Ducks out of the sky and defeated them 5-0. Deano and Vossy didn't even get a look in.

Commiserations to The Ducks, you really got plucked this year (whew I'm glad I spelt plucked right and didn't spell it with and "F") good luck next year. They may come back as the Angry Ducks next season.

A massive thank you (as always) to Lisa and Dean for opening their home and allowing us to play the final in their home. Another thank you to those who assisted during the final series with refereeing and scoring (although the grand final was a bit quicker than we would have hoped). ..................... (
